I find myself at a loss for words. It is time to write. Time to schedule my post for the week and there is nothing.
Nada.
No matter what I try to reflect on, there is nothing there.
I tried reflecting of the gospel passage from the weekend. John 2...the wedding at Cana. Where Mary said to Jesus, "they are out of wine." And he replied, "So. Why does that concern me?" I AM paraphrasing! But that is kind of the gist of that passage. John 2:1-12
Even though Jesus said his time hadn't come, Mary, his mother, told the servants to "Do whatever he tells you." verse 5.
She was pretty sure that he was going to SOMETHING.
I wonder about several things in this passage...
Did Mary tell the servants to do this, because she was his mother? Because she KNEW he would do something? Did she sense that something was about to change?
And what about Jesus and the disciples...why were they there? Were they ALL friends of the bride and groom? Or were the disciples tagging along with Jesus?
Whose wedding was it anyway?
Did the bride and groom sense that Jesus was something special? That he could make serious changes?
In verse 11, we are told that the disciples believed in him.
AFTER he changed the water into wine.
AFTER.
What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. verse 11
When they witnessed the miracle, they believed...the disciples were changed.
Jesus changed them.
And he can change you and me.
Thank you, Lord, for the power of YOU. For the change that you can bring about in our lives, when we believe in you. Thank you for making me realize that change, though hard, is worthwhile. It can bring joy after heartache. Lord, there are changes going on in my life that are a bit scary. They can be overwhelming, but I know that I am doing your will, following your lead and I know that with your help, I can be successful at these things. Thank you for these words in John.
There are some changes going on in my life. Some a bit challenging. Some a bit scary. But I think they are all good. Theses changes, well, they are stretching me. I am being pulled out of my box. Being shaped into what He wants me to become.

The disciples were changed. I'm also very glad that statement is in the Bible. It's encouraging and challenging and exciting. Thanks for pointing it out again to me today; I'd forgotten about it.

ReplyDeleteYes, my friend, only He is able to do any work of true change is a heart. The water from the jars were for the law observance of washing. He alone can take our water of law observance and changes that into the wine of His life.

ReplyDeleteI love all the questions you thought of over this Chapter! I also like the "change". He can change us, just as He can change water into wine. And it wasn't just any wine, He changed it into the BEST wine of the party. It's amazing to think of what He can do with us, and exciting too! ^_^
ReplyDeleteAgreeing with Nancy's comment - boy, do I hate scary! God has walked me through so many changes, and I'm forever grateful. But I am a poor disciple... I kick and scream through the changes and only kick and scream a bit less and less each time. Thanks goodness He is patient with us. I pray all the changes He is leading you through will bring great peace and joy.
